Luminous Pressed Powder - 01
Eyebrow Stylist - Light
Blush in Rose Gold

I have been a fan of Sleek make-up since about 2010 when I made it my mission to collect every single eyeshadow palette that they brought out. They make some really high quality affordable products and I think often they are overlooked as a brand. They seem like the perfect type of make-up brand for teen girls. The issue that I had was that they are only sold in Superdrug (or online) and there was no Superdrugs near me.. until recently (you can imagine my delight).

As I am trying to stay away from well known drugstore brands that test on animals (think Rimmel or Maybelline) and explore other brands of make-up that are cruelty-free or vegan (which Sleek are), I decided to pick up some products of theirs which I am currently running out of instead of going crazy and buying everything.

I picked up three of their products, one of them did the blogging rounds years ago which everyone had to get their hands on, the Blush in Rose gold. I have a love/hate relationship with blush as I just don't seem to apply it very well however I love the idea and look of it on other people. In the packaging this blush looks very red, which can be a bit off-putting to some however it goes on quite lightly with buildable colour if you desire. The nice thing about it is that it has gold flakes (hence the name) which make you look very glowy. I think that this is the type of colour to suit a lot of different skin tones.

I also picked up a "luminous" pressed powder which looks incredible glittery to me in person however it seems to have photographed quite well as you can't see the glitter. I thought that I had actually picked up a highlighter or had gotten the idea wrong but after looking on their website, this is aimed at being used all over your face. It even suggests that you can buy a shade lighter as a highlighter or darker as a bronzer which I actually think is a good idea. I haven't actually used this yet so I'm not sure just how glittery it is on the skin. I think perhaps what I might experiment with is using a normal powder all over my face and just putting this over certain places, almost like a highlighter (but I fully intend to use highlighter as well).

The last thing that I picked up is their Eyebrow Stylist which looks exactly like the same concept as ABH's Brow Wiz just with more simple packaging. I really want to change the way I do my eyebrows as I've been doing them the same way for years. I have tried this out, however I picked up the wrong colour which is wayyyy too light for me (but probably a good colour for blondes). I didn't actually realise there was only three colour options available otherwise I definitely would have gone for a darker colour. I do like the consistency of this, it's sort of waxy, not like a pencil or a powder. I might pick another one of these up but in a better colour for me to try out properly.

What do you think of Sleek Make-up? What make-up have you been buying lately?

This months Glossybox was a collaboration which is something that they have done in the past and have been quite popular. This month it was focusing on the "healthy eating trend, so all the products have some kind of food element to them. The whole box was curated by Deliciously Stella, I hadn't actually heard of "Deliciously Stella" before but from reading this interview I think I understand a bit more about her/her brand. This to me didn't really make sense to include in a box as me, and many women I'm sure get these boxes as a treat to feel a bit better about ourselves and to discover new products and to have someone take the piss out of that seems a bit weird. I know she's parodying the "clean eating" trend and the products but I just thought it was a bit of a weird collaboration between the two... Anyway aside from that, I liked the idea of "healthy" products in this months box.

I thought I'd do a little post on my three favourite drugstore/highstreet foundations that are actually really good. I went through a stage where I would buy a different foundation every time I was running out which means I have been able to test out a lot of foundations. These are the ones that I tend to come back to and buy again and again.

So because it was my birthday recently, Topshop sent me a voucher for 20% off which was very nice of them. As I don't really need any new clothes (and because nothing much was interesting me) I decided to instead treat myself to a new bag and pick up some of their make-up as well. I think that Topshop make-up is a little bit overlooked by most people but it is actually really good quality and not that expensive. I really like the packaging as well, the illustration is playful and overall their style is unusual, eye catching and sets them apart from many other brands.

This months Glossybox was quite a special one as you were allowed the choice between two boxes. The whole box would help you create a certain look focused around a lipstick, either a bold red or golden nude shade. As I have mentioned, I'm not the biggest fan of lipsticks but if I was going to wear one, a nude lip would suit me better than red so I went for this one. The first thing that I noticed about this box was everything was full size, this makes it incredible value for money and also quite exciting. I also really liked the packaging this month, it was different to their normal pink and seemed quite fresh.

Above is some christmassy nail inspiration, this is mainly as I have acrylics and around holidays is a chance for me to play around and get something fun. If you didn't know that I had acrylics, you can see a post I did about them here.

Make up brushes are something which I use every day and know the importance of, however I just never seem to buy. I would much prefer to spend money on make up however the tools which we apply make-up with are just as important and can really make a difference.

When I got Novembers Glossybox through, Ruby Professional were one of the brands included. They sent a fluffy eyeshadow brush and I liked the look of this straight away. I liked the simple appearance of the brush, it looked very professional, hence the name. I also liked the way it made my eye make-up look. If you're one of those people that isn't very good at applying eyeshadow, get a fluffy brush because it makes ALL the difference.

After some more research I went ahead and bought a complete set from their website, they don't offer much on their site and it needs some serious adjustment and spellcheck done to it, but the recommendation came from Glossybox who I trust so I didn't let this stop me from ordering. Because it's christmas I thought that I would treat myself so these are a little present from me to me.

Now that we've definitely got into the colder weather, I thought I'd share a few tips about taking care of your skin. These three main things can really help the appearance of your skin and can help with your overall health as well.

These are just a few bits that I find myself reaching for quite a lot and I have found that are some essentials for me personally.

Nail Polish and Base Coat
I generally always have acrylic nails however I have found that nail polish is something which I always have to own. I usually have my toenails painted in some colour or another which lasts for ages, I do this myself as I like having pretty feet however I don't see the point in paying someone for this as it's mainly only me who will see it and who likes having their feet touched!? I don't own too many bottles however I usually have a mint or a light pink available. It's also handy if I chip the polish on my acrylics I can just touch them up/paint over. Base coat is also an essential for anyone who paints their nails as it stops them from turning yellow, I try to buy strengthening ones as I just think that this is better for my nails.

Lip balm
This is something which I always have to have with me at all times. I am OBSESSED with always having moisturised lips so much so that I have two by my bed, two on my desk and more in my bag. On the rare occasions which I don't have any lip balm with me you'll know about as I tend to get a bit grumpy. Nivea do some really nice lip products and this one is a recent favourite as it smells like blueberries and is such a pretty colour. I normally go for ones which I don't have to use my fingers to apply (ew) however this was discounted to 50p and I couldn't resist.

Eyelash Curlers
I am someone who always wears a lot of dark eye make-up in the form of a black eyeliner (always a wing) and lots of mascara. This is something which I have worn for so many years it is just me now and I feel a bit strange without it. Because of this I find eyelash curlers a must have as they add so much lift to the eyes, help mascara to go on better and are literally eye opening.

Light Coverage Foundation and Concealer
The one in the image is technically a BB cream which I like however this one shown is in the shade medium which is a tiny bit too dark for me (I'm very pale) so I tend to mix this with a light foundation. I've found that as I have gotten older, I prefer to wear less heavy looking/feeling make-up and often I hate most foundations as they end up looking cakey. I much prefer a very light coverage foundation or BB cream which sometimes I will still use a damp make-up sponge to lighten even further. I'll then use a concealer to cover any blemishes etc. I find this the best combination for me and my skin personally. The above concealer (Lasting perfection - lightest shade) is one that I have worn for many years and is so good for a hughstreet concealer, this is something that I always repurchase.

Beauty Tools
Pictured is a variety of "beauty tools" which I often use on a daily basis and don't need much explaining. I always have hairbands on my wrist or in my bag as you never know when you or a friend will need one and theres nothing worse than needing one and not having any with you. The same goes for bobby pins however it is very rare for me to need these as I hardly ever pin my hair back, but it is good to own.

What are some of your beauty essentials?
